Rick was born in Lewistown, Montana on January 2, 1951. He graduated from Hobson High School and continued on to receive an Associates Degree in Ag Business from MSU Northern in Havre.
Rick was married to Terrie Sandstrom in April 1971. They were married 11 years and then divorced. Rick married Sarah Hollatz Stevenson on September 1st, 1995 and they have been married 18 years.
Rick spent most of his life farming and ranching. He also owned and operated Stevenson Service, a gas station and mechanic shop. For many years, Rick enjoyed co-operating the Circle Bar Guest Ranch with his wife Sarah. He touched many lives in this capacity especially driving guests to the Middle Fork cabin as well as escorting them to the weekly "dam picnic" on the hay wagon pulled by his favorite draft team Bert and Ernie. Following the years at the Circle Bar, Rick and Sarah focused on their registered cattle operation at the R&S Angus Ranch in Utica.
As a youth, Rick was an active member of 4H and FFA. He showed cattle extensively including trips to Canada and the National Junior Angus Show. Rick was involved in the Montana Angus Association and the American Angus Association and continued these memberships as an adult. He was a member of the Dude Ranchers Association and was later honored as a member of the DRA Hall of Fame. Rick was a loyal supporter of many local organizations and was formerly a volunteer firefighter
and also a member of the Hobson United Methodist Church.
Rick will be remembered for being kind-hearted, generous, mischievously fun loving and a wonderful cook. His friends and family enjoyed his humor and especially his one liners that had the power to lift hearts and reassure. As a friend, Rick was loyal and looked for ways to make things better for others. He loved spoiling his grandkids and caring for all kinds of critters both large and small. He was a creative problem solver, he had lots of knowledge about a wide variety of subjects and was a good steward of the land he was entrusted with.
Rick is survived by his wife Sarah Stevenson; children Jerod Stevenson (Lori), Jennifer Hammontree (Nathan), Melissa Hollatz (Joe Weber), and Peter Hollatz (Sabine); grandchildren Jordan Stevenson, Levi Stevenson, Ashley Hammontree, Hayden Hammontree, Reed Hammontree; mother Jeanette (Potter) Stevenson; siblings Keith Stevenson, Jamie Stevenson; and many other loved family and friends.
