BOWIE, MD. Ruth Pospisil Nelson, 84, of Bowie, Md., who was born on her family's homestead near Moore, later taught school near Denton, lived in Malawi, Africa, as one of the first people to volunteer for the Peace Corps in the 1960s and moved to Bowie after returning from Africa, died of colon cancer Tuesday, July 17, at the Hospice of Queen Anne's in Centreville, Md.
Services have taken place, and Ruth was buried next to her husband, Gordon, in Maryland.
Survivors include daughter, Rita McGuigan; son Gary Nelson; grandson who was raised as a son, Jay Hyland; brothers Harry Pospisil and Marvin Pospisil; sisters Louise Anglin, Dolores Berg, Sharlene Inglis and Linda Coker; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Nelson.
