Stuart 'Yogi Bear' Bearchild

Browning —Stuart Bearchild, 84, was received into the loving arms of the Lord on Nov. 8, 2013 at the Blackfeet IHS.

A full-blooded Blackfeet, he was born March 17, 1929 on Cut Bank Creek to Susie HeavyRunner and Louie PlentyTreaty Bearchild. He grew up at Starr School where he attended school. He then joined the Army and served his country before returning and eventually working at Plant Management. A craftsman by trade, he enjoyed his arts and crafts, carving and fixing things. He was known to say that he could fix anything with duck tape and super glue but a broken heart.

Stuart married Joyce Big Beaver. She preceded him in death as has his parents Louie and Susie PlentyTreaty Bearchild; a daughter Roselyn Boy; a brother Burton Bearchild; and a sister Jean Marie Bearchild.

Survivors include his sons and daughters Patricia L. Boy, Gerald "Jerry" (Raynalda St. Goddard)Boy, Edward "Billedeuax" Bearchild, Lionel SureChief, Alicia (Mike NoRunner) Sure Chief, Shawn (Joseph Elthie) Quiver-Elthie and Melody Boy; 11 grandkids and about 18 grandkids as well as a large extended family.

His wake is at the Old Eagle Shields in Browning with a prayer service being held Thursday at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm in the Old Eagle Shields. Burial will follow in the Willow Creek Cemetery where military honors will be presented.
