Joseph Dunn Obituary

Joseph James Dunn I

GREAT FALLS —Joseph James Dunn I, of Great Falls, was killed in the line of duty working as Sheriff Deputy on August 14, 2014.

Let God be glorified through Joseph on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Four Season's Arena. Burial with military honors will be at Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Joe was born on June 13, 1981 in Missoula, Montana to Jim and Linda Dunn. He was a combat veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps.

After his military service and a few tours in Iraq as a civilian contractor, he married his first and only love, Robynn Lynn Tholander on March 1, 2008 in Big Sky, MT. They have two beautiful children, Joey, his "little deputy," and Shiloh, his "pretty princess," whom he adored more than anything in the world. Words cannot express the kind of husband and father he was. His sense of humor always brought out the best in people. His love for Jesus Christ and his family defined who he was.

Joe was a very humble man. He always gave others the higher place not being comfortable with a lot of attention. He was rich in generosity; you could not out give Joe. His quiet, disarming presence made quite an impression on all that had the privilege of knowing him. Joe had a lot of titles: husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and sheriff's deputy all of which he excelled at!

Aside from his character, he was a character, who managed to find humor in everything, bringing joy and laughter to many. But the greatest joy in his life was Robynn, Joey "Bear" and Shiloh "Bear". He spent all of his free time doing family things including camping, grilling and travelling.

Joe is survived by his father, James Dunn; mother, Linda Dunn; wife, Robynn; son, Joseph II; daughter, Shiloh; brother, Nick and his wife, Sharon; sister, Kristi Faust and her husband, Timothy; nephews, Ryan, Dylan, Jeremiah, Thorsten, Josiah, Kade; nieces, Caitlin, Asia, Madison, Delilah, Audrey; father-in-law, Don Tholander; mother-in-law, Sue Fisher Tholander; brothers-in-law, Erik Tholander and Mark Tholander; sister-in-law, Holly Tholander.

Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.schniderfuneralhome.com.

What an amazing man and friend. I am so thankful he was our Bailiff and I got to know him so well. He was always talking about his wonderful kids and family. His laugh and smile were contagious! Every morning he would come check on us and have a fun story to tell us about his little kids. He will be deeply deeply missed, and always in our hearts. How grateful I am to say that I knew a true HERO and called him a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will never be forgotten.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to Joe's family, my heart goes out to you. Joe was always very respectful and while working at the courthouse treated me well, it didn't matter that I was a Public Defender, I got the same respect from Joe as the people on the state's side. Thank you so much for that, I will remember. May you find some solace in the fact that Joe was a good man and was good to everyone he came into contact with.

My heart breaks for his family. What s true hero he was, 3 tours in Iraq & afgan. Plus cherishing his family. You can't ask for a better hero then him. Sounds like he was a wonderful, well loved son, husband, daddy, brother & of course deputy.
Keep his memories close to your heart & he will
always be watching over you.

You will always be in our hearts.

There are hardly enough words to describe the daily sacrifices, hard work, and dedication of our law enforcement officers. My heart is heavy for Deputy Dunn and his family...as an officer's wife, I can relate to the dangers of this job, and how these fine officers sacrifice their safety for ours. May Joseph live peacefully & eternally with our Lord and may God bless his family until they meet again...
