CHOTEAU - Evelyn "Doris" (Matson) Krebs, 89, died of natural causes Saturday, March 26, at Teton Medical Center.
The Guest Book is expired.
At her request, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home of Choteau.
Evelyn was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Lewistown, Mont., to William and Josephine (Bersuch) Matson. In 1923, William died of a heart attack at his home. In 1929, Josephine married K.R. Smith; they raised chickens and grain near Choteau. Doris attended the rural Burton school and graduated in 1940 from Teton County High School in Choteau. She married William Burkhart, a Great Northern Railway employee, in May 1945, and in 1946, a son Paul was born. William died in 1966. Doris then married Lloyd "Duke" Krebs, an A.C.M. smelter employee, in 1974. They lived in Great Falls until the smelter closed; then in 1982 they moved to Choteau, where they retired.
Duke died in August 2007, and in 2008 Doris moved to the Skyline Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Paul (wife Merry); grandsons Roger and Kenneth; great-grandchildren Matthew and Allison, all of Colorado; and a half-brother, Raymond Smith of Great Falls.
Doris enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching and fishing. You would see Doris and Duke out on the Montana lakes very early in the mornings. Perhaps if we take a look toward the reservoirs, we may still see an image of the two of them.
