Palm Springs California —Jeannette Stephan Leigland, 96, died peacefully on April 7th, at the Seven Sisters Home Care, in Cathedral City CA. Jeannette was born on October 25, 1917, in Great Falls Montana the daughter of Louis and Anna Stephan.
Jeannette grew up in Great Falls and graduated from Great Falls High School. There she met the love of her life, Salmer Leigland, and they were married June 15th 1940. Jeannette worked for the Great Falls Tribune for a while, but married women did not work at the time. When she disclosed that she was married, she was told they would have a new girl to replace her in 2 weeks. Jeannette also worked at Electric City Conservatory during World War II. After marrying Salmer she devoted herself to raising their four children. Jeannette was a longtime member of the Social Order of the Beauceant and the Daughters of the Nile. Following Salmer's retirement they moved to Salton City, CA.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband Salmer, son Ivan Leigland, grandson Todd Perrella, sister Annabelle Leigland and brother Thomas Stephan. She is survived by her sister Helen Delger, Townsend, MT; children Janet (Nick) Perrella, Wickenburg, AZ. Robert (Sue) Leigland, Bozeman, MT. and Pam (Mike) Hofferber, Billings, MT, daughter-in-law Laura (Fred) Aimi Missoula MT. Ivan's children Stefan (Celine) Leigland, Michael (Keiko) Leigland, Janet's daughter Tonya (Dave) Strickland, Robert's daughters Becky (Gary) Strum, Tiffani (Jan) Sandberg, Pam's children Megan (Brandon) Robson, Brian Hofferber. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Sisters, especially Tess who treated Mom with tender love and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital 911 W. 5th Avenue Spokane, WA.
Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
