John Erwin Kultgen Obituary
John Kultgen, 65, of Power, a longtime farmer, died of renal failure Saturday, Dec. 1, at a local hospital.

Visitation is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at O'Connor Funeral Home. A vigil service is 7 p.m. Friday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Power, with funeral liturgy 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial is 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Great Falls.

John was born July 15, 1947, to Erwin and LaVerne Kultgen in Great Falls. John, along with his sister, Mary Ann Baker, was raised on the family farm in Power by his parents and grandfather Nick Ludowissi. He attended and graduated from Power Public Schools, played in the school band and served as the manager of sports teams. After high school, he attended and graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, with a degree in agriculture. He farmed with his dad, later taking over the operations of the family farm.

John married Susan Gouchenour, the love of his life, on Sept. 23, 2006. They had a very happy, but all too brief, marriage together. John loved and enjoyed his new-found extended family. John also enjoyed several hobbies, including gardening, hunting, sausage making, snowmobiling and model trains. However, his most beloved hobby was restoring vintage cars. He and Sue participated in car clubs, car tours and parades. He loved being Santa for many years.

John was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church, sang in the choir, served as an altar boy and later as a reader of scripture at mass. John loved visiting and helping other people but most of all telling jokes. He served on the Center for Mental Health board of directors for 20 years.

Survivors include Sue, his wife; stepchildren Rebekah (Mark), Brian (Jamie), Josh (Lyndsey), Emily (Fidel), and Launa; 22 grandchildren; his sister, Mary Ann Baker (Lloyd) and niece Leanne; mother-in-law Rosemary Gouchenour; 11 brothers and sisters-in-law; aunt and uncle Alfred and Angie Kultgen; aunt Delores Kultgen; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and LaVerne Kultgen; and father-in-law Don Gouchenour.

John touched the hearts of many people and will be missed dearly.

Remembrances may be sent to: The Center for Mental Health or Guardian Angel Catholic Church.
