ANCHORAGE, ALASKA Former Great Falls resident John Waldon Ecklund, 80, of Anchorage, Alaska, died of natural causes Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cremation Society of Alaska. His remains will be returned to Montana and the river he loved.

John, a Korean War veteran, was born June 16, 1932, in Sauk Centre, Minn. He was one of nine children born to John and Alice Ecklund.

John married Betty Lindborg on Jan. 2, 1956, and they spent the majority of their 57 years of married life in Great Falls. He and Betty raised three sons, Tim, Doug, and Curt; and one daughter, Darcy. John was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener.

John is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his children Tim, Doug, Curt and Darcy; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

John will be missed by his family and friends from over the years.
