Great Falls —Mary Lou Streifel, 70, went on her journey home Wednesday, October 30, 2013 after a valiant battle with strokes and cancer.
A vigil service will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 at 7 pm at O'Connor Memorial Chapel. Funeral liturgy will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 11 am at Holy Trinity Parish in Centerville with a reception to follow. O'Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mary Lou was born in Anaconda to Joseph and Frances (Beausoleil) Smollack on February 22, 1943. She was raised and educated there graduating from Anaconda High School in 1961. On August 22, 1960 she was united in marriage to Leo Streifel and they were blessed with three children. The couple celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year.
Mary Lou worked with the developmentally disabled adults as an academic trainer at Easter Seals and as a teacher's assistant in the resource room at Morningside Elementary where she worked side by side with her mother Frances (a foster grandparent).
Beloved daughter, wife, mother, teacher, artist, and friend, Mary Lou also enjoyed cake decorating, painting, gardening, playing cards, and especially time with her family (including the many pets).
Mary Lou is survived by her mother, Frances Smollack; husband Leo Streifel; children Janet (Buddy) Bratcher, Steve (Melanie) Striefel, and Theresa (Michael) Tolle; grandsons Tony "T-Bone" Streifel and Logan Streifel; and numerous extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Raymond Walter Smollack; father Joseph Smollack; and in-laws Anthony "Tony" and Elizabeth Streifel.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials are suggested to stroke and cancer research organizations of donor's choice.
