Norma N. Trenkle, age 84, of Las Vegas, passed away November 21, 2013. She was born in Great Falls, Montana, on March 27, 1929. Norma, the oldest of three children born to Wilbur and Edith Tanner, grew up on a ranch near square Butte Montana with her brother Wilbur V. Tanner and sister Alice Rose Lofshult. Norma and her siblings were always close and over the years and continued to enjoy annual get-togethers at the family ranch, yearly camping trips to Yellowstone and holidays at Norma's house in Las Vegas.
Norma graduated from high school in Geraldine, Montana, in 1943 and went on to earn an associate's degree from Western College in Dillion, Montana, and later a teaching degree from Eastern Washington College of Education in Cheney, Washington. While at Eastern Washington, she joined Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority (ADK) and remained an active member after graduation. She was a regular at sorority gatherings and maintained the friendships and bonds made in college throughout her life.
After graduation, Norma took her first teaching job in a one-room school house in Big Sandy, where she stayed for 2 years before taking her second job in Great Falls. She later worked in Seattle, Washington, before finally settling in Las Vegas, where she taught until she retired in 1986. Norma was a dedicated teacher who for her entire 33-year career had a passion for education and the children in her classes.
Norma married James J. Trinkle in December 1965, and enjoyed family life with her step-children Jim, Teresa and Rob, and later her step-grandchildren. Norma's husband Jim passed away in 1993, followed by her oldest stepson Jim.
Norma enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards in Georgetown, swimming, church, bingo and her brother Billy's pranks. Norma loved dogs and seldom went anywhere without her beloved animals. She is now in a better place with Jim and all of her dogs, smiling down on all those she leaves behind.
