Stockett —On the evening of October 24, 2013, Randal Charles Mundt peacefully passed away at home on the ranch where he spent his life. He entered eternity from the same house in which his grandfather, who created Mundt Ranch near Tiger Butte, died many years ago. Randy, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Great Falls July 31, 1948, the firstborn of Louis and Sylvia Jelinek Mundt. He served in the Air National Guard and graduated from Montana State University. Randy married Bernadette Mooney in 1974 and was a devoted father to their two children, Amanda "Bear" (Jake) Dinsdale of Boyd and Gustav Charles who carries on the family ranching tradition. The joy of his life were grandsons, Henry Joseph and Guthry Charles Dinsdale.
Randy said he "always had a thing for ironwork." He developed that interest and created many functional and architectural hand-forged objects as well as artistic articles becoming renowned for his knowledge of and skill with iron. The Montana Arts Council recognized the superb quality of his work and in 2010 he was inducted into the Montana Circle of American Masters (MCAM).
In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, and parents, he is survived by a brother, Ronald (Michelle) Mundt of Scottsdale, AZ, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Belt Catholic Church service will be held at Friday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. A private family and friends gathering will be held on the Mundt ranch at a later date for burial of ashes.
