Fort Benton, MT —Alan Leroy Carter "Al" of Power, MT passed away suddenly on May 28, 2014 while looking at wheat fields on the farm where he worked. Alan was born Aug 6, 1960 in Yuba City, California to Leroy & Carol Carter. He attended Live Oak High School. Alan began work as a beekeeper with Big Sky Honey which brought him to Montana in 1979. Alan lived in Chouteau County where he enjoyed farming. He tried his hand at his own logging business before moving to Great Falls in 1986. He was a caregiver to friend Andy Kruger which took him to many extravagant places like Hong Kong and Hawaii where a tragic accident involving a friend landed him in jail for a year. Upon release he returned to Montana, "God's Country" as he called it. He worked as a bouncer at the Loading Zone then retreated to Corvallis, Oregon. In about a year, he returned to MT where he resumed work as Manager of the Playground/Loading Zone and also continued farming west of Power. In 2002, Alan was hired by Scattered Acres Farms, Inc as Farm Foreman where he lived, worked and became a part of the Vick family. He enjoyed the peaceful country side where he lived and the variety of projects he was able to do and oversee on the farm. There truly was nobody better or more prideful at what they did than 'Big Al'. Alan is proceeded in death by his mother, Carol Carter, his father, Leroy Carter, and his stepmother, Patricia Carter. He is survived by his 3 sisters: Lisa Sanders of Sacramento, Kathy Jimenez of Las Vegas, and Amy Schleigh of Sutter, California along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and many more friends and loved ones. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday June 25 at 6pm at the Community Center in Power MT with a reception to follow.
