Philip Edward Donahue

GREAT FALLS —Philip Edward Donahue, 93, of Great Falls passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014.

Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D, at a later date.

Philip Edward Donahue was born in Philip, South Dakota on May 16, 1921, the sixth of seven children born to Edward and Louise Donahue. After graduating from high school in Torrington, Wyoming in 1939, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January, 1942. Before shipping overseas on his second assignment in 1943, he attended a Chicago USO where he met his future bride, Cora Colette Tynan. Their wartime correspondence yielded a marriage that lasted 68 years. He served four years, the last two in the Pacific, receiving multiple campaign medals including the Bronze Star. He was hired in Great Falls, Montana as a regional salesman for General Mills, Inc. in 1949, and later assumed a "national sales" recruitment and training position at company headquarters in Minneapolis. The family relocated to Rapid City, S.D. in 1959.

Early retirement afforded enjoyment of the Black Hills, golf, and almost 30 years wintering among friends in Florence, AZ.

Philip is survived by wife, Colette; three children, Reon (John) Tesar of Tucson, AZ, Donna Donahue (Jim Cooper) of Sequim, WA, and Will (Jan) Donahue of Great Falls; and six grandchildren, Shane, Kim, Jesse, Kelly, Larissa and Sean.
