Great Falls MT —Alene Anne Cooper passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana.
Born February 16, 1924 in Glasgow, Montana, she was the daughter of David and Madge Cooper. She, her sister, Mary and brother Chuck spent their childhood in the Dupuyer/Choteau area and attended school there. After graduation Alene went on to graduate from Stanford University in 1947 and eventually obtained her Masters of Library Science from Columbia University.
Alene's career in Library Science spanned over several years in Montana. She was the Administrative Officer at the Montana State Library, Coordinator of the Golden Plains Federation of Libraries, Coordinator of Pathfinder Federation of Librarians, head Librarian for the Great Falls Library and the Coordinator of Library Development at the Montana State Library in Helena until her retirement. She was a member of the Montana Council for the Humanities and received her Honorary Life Membership in 1986 for her contribution to librarianship.
She loved to travel and spent time in South America, Nepal and Ireland including many winters in New York City. She most recently lived in Great Falls for the past 15 year.
Alene is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Cooper Carpenter and her brother, Charles W. Cooper. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Choteau, Montana.
