CONRAD - Edna Hamilton (Kunkel) Totdahl, 80, of Conrad, died of a lengthy illness Wednesday, July 25, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls.
Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Pondera Valley Lutheran Church in Conrad. Pondera Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Edna was born in Hedgesville on October 14, 1931, to Tobias and Isabelle (Ross) Kunkel. In 1949, she married Oscar Totdahl in Conrad and spent the rest of her life in Conrad.
Edna worked various jobs during her life. Her number one job was always her family, but she worked other and sometimes laboring jobs throughout her life.
One of the highlights of her many jobs was working in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. She will be remembered as a strong willed, hard working, courageous lady. She was dedicated and devoted to her family and friends. "One scoop for the coffee pot and two scoops for us," Edna always said. Her morning cups of coffee and KMON radio in the background will be missed by all.
Edna enjoyed antique collecting, crocheting and knitting. She was known for her personalized picture framed hand crocheted name doilies. She loved gardening, picking berries of all kinds and canning everything. One of her favorite pastimes was discussing politics with anyone who would or wouldn't listen. Edna was a 4-H leader for many years in Conrad and helped many 4-Hers complete projects for the fairs, along with entering her own goods in the fairs. She had participated in the
Survivor Walk in Havre since 2003 with the family.
Edna is survived by daughters Maxine Bakken (Terry) of White Sulphur Springs, Carolyn Kovatch (Dave) of Great Falls, Sandra Schweitzer (Kent) of Fairfax, Va. and Donna Fowler (Matt) of Conrad; son David Totdahl (Tammy) of Conrad; son-in-law Steve McLain (Marilyn) of Havre; sister Darlene Davies (Gary) of Spokane; stepsisters Hazel Hinderager (Carl) of Great Falls and Thelma Hayne (Bud) of Fort Shaw; brother Lloyd Kunkel (Evelyn) of Sun River; stepbrother Roy Owing (Francis) of Missoula; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
