Arthur G. Rapp Obituary
MISSOULA - Arthur G. Rapp, 87, of Missoula, died of natural causes on Friday, August 3, at home.

Funeral mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial with military honors to follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.

Art was born February 25, 1925, in Minneapolis to Arthur C. and Kathryn Rapp. They homesteaded in Dodson, where Art enjoyed playing basketball and graduated from Dodson High School, class of 1944.

A volunteer for the US Navy at age 18, Art served in combat aboard the USS Flint throughout World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He participated in battles near Formosa, Iwo Jima, Kyushu, Okinawa and Tokyo.

Art attended Western Montana College in Dillon and earned his Bachelor of Education degree, and after some teaching experience, he went back to school and earned his Master of Education and Administration at the University of Montana in Missoula.

Art met his wife Dolores during his first year of teaching in Libby and they were married June 7, 1954. They lived and worked in schools throughout Montana, including Geyser, Benton, Baker, Belfry, Whitehall and Roy. Art retired after 32 years of teaching and administration.

Art enjoyed time with his family, his many spoiled dogs, and appreciated every detail of life. He loved telling and listening to stories and giving nicknames to friends and family. Art was an avid gardener and took particular pride in his corn and tomatoes.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Dolores Rapp of Missoula; his daughters Deanne Tucker (Keith) of Missoula, Gwen Simonis (Robert) of Troy, Mich. and Melanie Weiss (Richard) of Cleveland, Ohio; and his three granddaughters, Kelsey, Claire and Emily Simonis.

Art was preceded in death by his daughter Danelle.
