Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior. She was born to the late George and Pauline (Paulson) Burton, Sept. 17, 1917, in Ellensburg, Wash. Dorothy graduated from Pasco Washington High School in 1935 and received a BA in English from the University of Montana, Missoula, in 1940. She married the late Charles Irvin Bottens in 1950 and they lived in Livingston and Great Falls. Many of her students became lifelong friends, and she reconnected with them at class reunions until she was in her 80s. She was a member of the Women's Club Chorus in Red Lodge and Treble Clef in Livingston.

Dorothy was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Mary Circle. She taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and Bethel bible series; served on the church council and Altar Guild; and made many quilts at Love Day for Lutheran World Relief.

Dorothy was devoted to her family's well-being. Each holiday was a reason to celebrate, decorate and cook the family's favorite Scandinavian foods. Dorothy had a gift for writing poetry, short stories and devotionals. Her family often remarked about her ability to complete the Sunday crossword puzzle with accuracy and in ink.

Dorothy is survived by two children, Margaret Schmidt (Thomas) of Eagle, Idaho, and Bernard Bottens (Carol) of Vancouver, Wash. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brian, Erica and Eryn; and two great grandchildren, Emily and Claire.
