Thomas Parr Jr., 89, a retired military veteran, of Great Falls, died of natural causes Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Visitation is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Croxford Funeral Home, 1307 Central Avenue. Funeral Liturgy is 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Croxford Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Croxford Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Thomas was born in Whitehaven, England, to Tom and Ruth (Nixon) Parr, Aug. 27, 1923. The family moved to the United States in 1927. He joined the navy when he was 17, serving from 1941 to 1960. He served aboard the USS Solace during the Pearl Harbor attack, earning 8 Battle Stars for World War II, South Pacific and Guadalcanal. When he retired from the navy, he spent 18 years as a civil servant with the USAF, ending his career in Germany.
In 1945, he married Dorothy Sanger. During their marriage they enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and walking in the mountains was their greatest pleasure and pastime. Tom and Dorothy traveled extensively as Tom served in the military and civil service. Dorothy died in 1987. He remarried in 1988, to Patti Warning. Patti died in 2007.
Tom is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Raaen, Barb (Bill) Brown, Chris (Bernie) Boilek and Robin (Dennis) Ackerman; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Dad, it's been a long journey - rest in peace.
