BILLINGS Betty Jane Atchison, 93, of Billings, died of natural causes Friday, Feb. 22, in Billings.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Geraldine, with burial to follow in the Geraldine Cemetery (her daughter Debra will also be laid to rest with her). A luncheon will follow. Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary and Crematory in Billings handled arrangements.
Betty was born Oct. 6, 1919, to Frank and Bandina Hopkins. She grew up in Illinois and Geraldine. In 1942, she married Russell M. Atchison also of Geraldine. When he was drafted into the Army during World War II, she also joined the Army. serving in a hospital in Philadelphia. After their service in the military they made their home in Geraldine until poor health caused her to move to Billings to be closer to family. They had five children. She was very active in her beloved community of Geraldine, belonging to the United Methodist Church, where she sang for many funerals and weddings, directed the children's choir and was active in UMW. She also taught sewing in 4-H for many years and was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, where she was the last charter member.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Russ in 2000; her daughter, Debra (Joe) LeLievre in 2010; her parents; siblings Dick Hinkle and Mary E. Vegoren; as well as two infant brothers; and numerous friends and relatives.
She is survived by her children, Peggy (Doug) Safley of Havre, Linda (Barry) Curtis of Billings, Bob (Carol) Atchison of Roundup and Jay (Sharon) Atchison of Kennewick, Wash.; grandchildren Brenda (Bill) Curry, Chris (Tara) Wilcox, Tracie Dahl, Robyn (Jerry) Curtis-Rice, Ryan Curtis, Ben (Andi) LeLievre, Eric LeLievre, Jacqueline (Clay) Kraatz, Nolan Atchison, Shelby Atchison and Colby Atchison; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
