Great Falls —Shirley L. Anderson, 78, died peacefully at Highgate Senior Living early Thursday morning surrounded by her family, December 19th, 2013 from complications of Alzheimers.
Shirley Louise Wold was born October 2, 1935 in St. Maries, Idaho to Alfred and Mabel Wold. When she was four years old, her father found work in the timber industry and moved the family to Milltown, Montana just outside of Missoula. She was raised along the banks of the Clark's Fork and Blackfoot Rivers among the hustle and bustle of the small logging town.
She attended primary school in Milltown and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1953. For a short time after graduation she worked for the US Forest Service as a dispatcher at Fort Missoula. She then moved to Great Falls to attend Business College and went to work for the Great Falls Gas Company after graduation.
She met John Anderson and they were married on November 15, 1957. They made their home in Riverview where they raised their three boys, David, Dick and Jeff. After the boys were in school she went back to work and eventually became the office manager at The Home Insurance Company for many years. After the Home Insurance Company closed up in Great Falls, she did the accounting and secretarial work at Lewis Construction Company where she retired from. After retirement Shirley and John enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and relatives near and far, spending time at their cabin in Hardy Creek and being grandparents to their five grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, son Dick, sister Virginia, brother Stan, nephew Art, sister/brother-in-law Anne and Budd Severson, and brother-in-law Charles Anderson. She is survived by her son David (June), granddaughters Rachael (Tat) Czudak, Erika and Amy Anderson. Son Jeff (Margaret Cameron), grandsons Jacob and Jared Anderson.
Services are planned this Saturday at 10:30 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with interment at Highland Cemetery following.
