Michael Bell Obituary

WOLF POINT -- Michael Bell, 22, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and formerly of Wolf Point, the victim of a stabbing, died Wednesday in a Billings hospital.
His wake begins 4 p.m. Tuesday at SilverWolf Casino in Wolf Point, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services are 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Wolf Point High School Gymnasium, with burial with full military honors in Greenwood Cemetery, Wolf Point. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point is in charge of arrangements.
Mike is survived by his mother, Deb'e Chase-Bell; his father, Ted E. Bell; brothers Aaron (Kelli) and Dusty Bell; his grandmother, Carol Mann; aunts Kelly Driftwood, Tammy Lawson, Alison Jackson, Gina Mayer, Belle Chase; as well as numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Michael was a Petty Officer 2nd Class (SEAL) stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Base and attached to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE. He has served honorably for the past five years.
Michael Kenneth Bell was born May 10, 1983, in Poplar, to Deb'e Chase-Bell and Ted E. Bell. He grew up and attended schools in Wolf Point and a year in Frazer. He graduated from Wolf Point High School with honors in 2001.
Mike started wrestling at five years old and continued all the way through high school. Some highlights were All-State in AAU Wrestling, receiving the Ironman Award for competing in Freestyle, Greco, and Sombo. Eventually, Mike made it to Grand Nationals in Michigan where he placed. Mike was also active in boxing, football, basketball, track, and cross country. He participated in the annual "Mending the Hoop Run" which represented the sobriety and healing of the reservation.
In addition to athletics, Mike stayed active with his local community as a motivation speaker for the youth. Mike was very proud of his Indian heritage. He descended from two separate tribes, Assiniboine Nation as well as Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arickara Nation. Mike's flute, that his mother and aunt Gina had special made for him, never left his side as he took it on all his trips across the country.
Mike was a talented Navy SEAL who was loved by all his teammates. Some of his notable accomplishments include Military Free Fall, NSW SCOUT, and NSW Sniper. NSW Sniper is the most challenging qualification to earn in the SEAL community. Mike did not simply complete it, but graduated runner-up for the "Honor Man" award.
Even though Mike was a tough warrior, he always was sweet and gentle with his family, who meant the world to him. Mike was an amazing son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, friend, and SEAL who will always be remembered for his smile, laughter, wittiness, great sense of humor, charisma, zest for life, overachiever, and most of all, for the respect he had for his family.
Mike is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents – Preston and Sina Bell; maternal grandfathers, Bernard (Sonny) Chase and Clarence D. Mann; and uncles Frank Chase, Mike Mann, David Bell, and Billy Bell.

I think of you almost everyday. Your cocky attitude, your amazing smile, and your need to protect me. I will always remember you with love, grace, and awe. "I'm like a fish. Shiny things always catch my eye. That's why I'm a SEAL, and that's why I love you"-MB. You were my shiny thing and I will see you in heaven❤

When you die, you will be spoken of as those in the sky, like the stars.-Yurok

This guest book is for my sister, Deb, a strong Navy SEAL mother and her beautiful family.

These kind words and special thoughts of Mike's SEAL brothers, family and friends bring to my mind the call from Mike to request assistance in contacting his uncle, Frank Chase. Mike was excited to share that he would be training at SEAL/BUDS soon and was eager to hear of his uncle Frank's experiences and his advice for the trials that lie ahead.

I felt strongly that Mike would be successful as an outstanding Navy SEAL who would make us very proud as did his uncle Frank and many family before him.

I am fortunate to have had TABE in my life and am thankful to my sister, Deb and those that have taken the time to share their thoughts, stories, and prayers with our family.

My husband and I were honored to meet and get to know Mike while he was at Camp Attebury in Indiana in March. He touched our hearts and lives, and he was a good friend to our son. He told us of his Indian heritage, his uncle, and his family. He spent some time on weekends at our home, and we are heartbroken for his family. Thom & Jeri Dixon

I didn't know Mike Bell but my son is in the Navy and I know how hard it was for Mike to become a SEAL and how proud you must have been of him. It takes a special kind of man to be a SEAL. It sounds like your son was a very special man and greatly loved by his family and friends. My condolences go out to you and your family. I know he will be greatly missed by you and the SEAL community.

When I heard what had happened, my feeling was one of disbelief and hurt. Then came the anger. I sit here now not knowing what to say. nothing will bring that sweet smiling man back to those who love him. I remember standing in his mom's house, watching all the Prom prep. Mike was looking so handsome, he was nervous, all cleaned and and looking cute. So many things fly through my mind when I think about mike. I remember watching him wrestle, always trying harder to be a better wrestler, but always willing to give praise to those around him, I remember how he loved his friends and his family. He loved his mom so much...most guys as a teen ager would not hug their mom, and give her a kiss. Mike always did. He was so proud of his mom. Oh god Debbie, what can one say? He loved You SOOOOO much, when you feel lonely, just remember that, and you will never be alone.

Nothing can truely bring him back....But nothing and nobody can ever take him truely away.

I know how much you hurt and I wish I caould take away your tears and show you the happy memories he gave you.

To the Family of Mike Bell;

Mike was the first real friend I made when moving back from California. He didn't judge, only smiled and was interested in knowing who I was. What an honor it was to carry his friendship through the years and to say I know that SEAL. Deb'e, you raised such an awesome son and it is one of the greatest heartbreaks to know he is gone. He is missed and he is loved. I will always remember my special friend who sat next to me in mechanical drawing and laughed at me every time Mr. Erickson sent me to the office. My prayers are with your family. God Bless!
