Christopher Hinkfuss Obituary

Hinkfuss, Christopher R.

Christopher R. Hinkfuss, age 50, of Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack, Monday, January 25, 2016. He was born December 1, 1965 in Green Bay, the youngest of six children of William and Rosemary (Walsh) Hinkfuss. Chris attended St. Mary of the Angels Grade School and graduated from Premontre High School in 1983. Chris then attended UW-Madison from where he graduated in 1988 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After working for five years in sales with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, first in Milwaukee and then Chicago, Chris followed his father and two brothers to law school. He earned his law degree from UW-Madison Law School in 1995. Upon graduation, he moved back to Green Bay where he has practiced with the Hinkfuss, Sickel, Petitjean, Whiting law firm since graduation.

During his 20 years of practicing law, Chris emphasized trial work and criminal law as well as many other areas of the law. Overriding any particular law specialty, however, was his deep desire to help all individuals, especially those whom he believed to be most in need. He was also an active member of the Wisconsin Association for Justice, the Robert J. Parins Inns of Court, the Wisconsin Bar Association and the Brown County Bar Association. Chris not only served the legal community, he helped the wider community. He was a former member of the United Way Contribution Committee, the Olde Main Street Bid Board in Green Bay and a legal volunteer for the Commission on Aging. In addition, he was a co-recipient of the 2011 Most Charitable Business Award from the Hmong 18 Council of Wisconsin.

Besides being an outstanding attorney, the primary staple of Chris' life was his family and friends. He especially cherished his nieces and nephews and prioritized spending time and recognizing special occasions with and for them. He rarely missed a graduation or family party, passed up a friendly game of football with the kids and siblings or a friendly wager on the golf course. If a family member or friend were in town, Chris was there to greet them and made sure they felt at home. A lifelong Packer fan and longtime season ticket holder, Chris thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the statewide sports teams.

Chris had an amazing ability to connect with people, whatever their personalities or walks of life. While on this Earth, he did not squander his time—he possessed a love of life and adventure, creating fun and memories wherever he went. He left us far too young—he still had much life to live and much life to give. We will dearly miss his joyful spirit and all of us are richer for Chris' presence among us and poorer for his passing.

Chris is survived by his parents, William and Rosemary Hinkfuss; 5 siblings: Eileen (Preston) Long, Timothy (Kathy) Hinkfuss, Paul (Sally) Hinkfuss, Mary (Andy) Collins and Anne (David) Perkins; his significant other, Sandy Vang; 6 nieces: Sarah (Ryan) Zampardo and Katie Hinkfuss; Caitlin Long, Madde and Marie Hinkfuss and Molly Perkins; 3 nephews: Alex Long, Andrew Hinkfuss and Michael Hinkfuss; aunts, Ruth (Mike) Bruin and Helen Hinkfuss; uncle, Daniel (Enrite) Hinkfuss and many other relatives and friends.

Chris was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, (340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay) on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 4 to 7:30 PM with a prayer service at 7:30PM. Visitation will continue at ST. MARY OF THE ANGELS (645 S. Irwin St., Green Bay), Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 9 AM to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11AM with Rev. David Komatz, O. Praem presiding with Abbot Gary Neville, O. Praem., homolist. In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to Literacy Green Bay (www.literacygreenbay.org/#!memorials-and-tributes/c1gf) or other charity of your choice in Chris's name are appreciated.

Chris' family would like to thank Chris' many friends, colleagues and acquaintances who have bestowed our family with their love and support.

I am very sorry to learn of his passing. I met Chris when we both were law students at UW Madison. I have thought highly of Chris ever since - a good guy and a friend to many. He has left us far too soon. My condolences to the entire Hinkfuss family, to Chris's friends, and to all those that Chris touched as a great human being, a respected attorney and a civic leader.

Dear Hinkfuss Family,

I was stunned to see Chris's obituary on this website. It always bothers me to see people I know younger than me pass away much too soon. He obviously was a good person and a great citizen.
Your family was very special in my younger life. As a teacher it was nice to be included in your family gatherings.
I extend my condolences to all of you. I have and will remember Chris in my prayers and Mass intentions. May God help you through this tragedy.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I've known Chris since childhood through our family's friendship. We became friends ten years a go and when we last spoke he was looking forward to going to the Packer game in Arizoma.

Chris also had a way of ending conversations on a personal note to show his caring and compassionate side.

My sincere condolences,

To Bill, Rosemary and the entire family:
I was so saddened and shocked to hear the terrible news of Chris's passing. Having worked with him on a number of cases, I always found Chris knowledgeable, caring, kind and competent. His exceptional work product made my job easier. He was pleasant at all times. I truly enjoyed Chris. His gentlemanly quality mirrored his father. His community is better for having had him for these years, albeit way too few. He was a good man, and nothing more need be said about anyone. He left his mark. You all have my deepest sympathy on this most sad occasion.

My deepest condolences to Chris's family. He was a good friend to me for over 26 years. I considered him a friend to keep forever. I miss him already and I can only imagine how heartbreaking and tragic it is to those who loved him so much. He loved his family so very much. He was very proud to be a Hinkfuss. He always wanted to be a good son and brother. Everything that I know, he was an excellent brother, son and friend. Can't say it enough, I miss him already. Aloha Chris

Dear Bill, Rosemary and family: Words are inadequate to truly express our feelings at your great loss of a fine son. When we were back-door neighbors in the 1960's we saw Chris and your other children grow from infants to adults. They are all credits to your family and the Green Bay community, as are the two of you. We regret we will not be able to attend the wake or the funeral as we are in Orange Beach Al. for the Winter. Our thoughts and Prayers will be with you. Knowing you as we do we are sure that somehow someway you will find the strength to bear the pain of your great loss. The Holy Spirit truly does move in strange ways that are impossible for us to understand.

My family and I share in the condolences extended to Chris' family and friends. As law school classmates, Chris and I shared some great memories. I'm glad we got a chance to catch up briefly this fall, but I certainly wasn't expecting for that encounter to be our last. I'm shocked and saddened to learn about Chris' passing.

We have always enjoyed our times with Chris. For the most part, it's been during our annual Walsh Christmas parties. It was great when the Hinkfuss's were able to come to Ohio for this gathering. The Finn's will miss Chris and are so sad for all the family. Please know, Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Bill, that you are in our prayers constantly.

January 26, 2016

Dear Bill, Rosemary, Ilene, Tim, Paul, Mary, and my dear friend Ann,
I struggle to find any words that can comfort your heart's, at this most difficult time, as Chris was taken to heaven too soon. Just know this, growing up with the Hinkfuss family you were our family. We always enjoyed each other with laughter and fun memories. Chris the baby, we all thought was adorable, especially his smile was contagious. When he came and got his haircuts by me, Chris has his special way of always being late, parking halfway up the driveway, yet his smile let him get away with it, every time! We would laugh. Our conversations could go from politics to sports, or me trying to set him up with someone, when he was not dating anyone. We saw Chris grow up from a little boy, from our St. Mary of the Angel's days, as Annie and I hung out together. To a young man, with so much passion and drive for his job as a lawyer, to very caring, especially when it came to his Mother and Father. our family too is heartbroken of Chris's passing. Your family has always been there for us, and the Basche family, we are here for you. With support we would like to extend our sympathy to The entire Hinkfuss family. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. God needed a super lawyer like Chris to settle some good cases in heaven. God, just take good care of him, until we meet again. Chris you will be so missed. Love and hugs to you all.
