Emmons Maloney Obituary

Maloney, Colonel Emmons S.

Colonel Emmons S. Maloney (Retired USMC) died on May 24, 2013, in Tucson, Ariz. He was born on Dec. 8, 1922, in Green Bay, Wis., and attended University of Wisconsin and St. Norbert's College in De Pere, Wis.

Col Maloney joined the USN in June 1942, as an Aviation Cadet; went through flight school in Minneapolis, Minn. and Pensacola, Fla. Upon earning his gold wings in August 1943, he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the USMC. He served as a fighter pilot in three wars World War II, Korean and Vietnam. In between wars, he attended military professional schools and had appropriate staff and command positions in his 30 years of active service. His last duty was Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz. Upon retirement from USMC, he moved to Tucson, Ariz. and worked for Tucson Electric Power Co. for 13 years and retired from the company in 1985. In 1988, he and his wife, Eloise moved to Fallbrook, Calif.

Col. Maloney married Eloise Hare from Green Bay, Wis., in 1946. They had six children who are scattered throughout the USA. They are Christine Ann Hopkins, (deceased), Malene Murad in Greenville, N.C., Emmons George, (deceased), Calvin, in Tucson, Ariz., Denise Sapp in San Diego, Calif., and Patrick in Long Beach, Calif. Beside their immediate family, they have 12 grandchildren and six great-children. He is survived by two brothers, Denis and Clayton and one sister, Joyce Oldenberg

Burial will take place at Arlington Cemetery.
