Louis Boettcher Obituary

BOETTCHER, LOUIS

Louis Paul Boettcher, 79, Shawano, formerly of Bonduel, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2013. He was born and baptized at the family farm in the Town of Hartland, rural Bonduel. He was the only son of Louis and Florence Boettcher. He attended Friedens Lutheran Church his entire life, where he was confirmed, served on the church council, and was a long-time member of the Dartball team.

Louie served in the US Army from 1952 - 1954 and upon his discharge and return home married Rosella (Lepinski) at Friedens Church on November 14, 1954. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary prior to her death in 2011. Louie and Rosella ran a successful dairy farm for 24 years. After selling the farm in 1978, they built a home off Hwy 47 by Slab City. They then started a catering business eventually operating out of the Fox Ballroom in Cecil. They catered together for over thirty years until their retirement in 2010. Louie worked in the background, but was always there supporting whatever was Rosella's newest project. In addition to farming and catering, Louie drove bus for the Bonduel School District for many, many years. He and his driving style were well liked by the students.

Louis was well known throughout the community for his ability to fix nearly anything. He had a well-appointed shop behind the house where he did his work as a self-taught machinist, welding, cutting and repairing. He enjoyed working in his shop, designing and building work trailers and other items often seen for sale on the front lawn of their home. His other passions were playing cards and shooting pool, and he excelled at both.

Louis and Rosella loved to travel. They owned several Honda touring motorcycles and enjoyed numerous road trips traveling across the entire country visiting family and friends, even traveling across the Appalachian Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway. They also traveled to Hawaii, Europe and Africa.

Louie and Rosella loved to dance, especially to polka music. They frequently traveled the area to attend the Sunday polka dances. Dad had his motorcycle outfitted with a stereo, which was permanently tuned to a polka station. He and his music could be heard coming blocks away.

Louie is survived by his four children, Russell (Darlene) of De Pere; Marcelene (Jim) Betzner of Bonduel; Kristyne (Lee) Ericson of Pulaski; and Kalvin (Cheryl) Boettcher of Shawano. He is further survived by his nine grandchildren, Christa (Dan) Vanderheiden of Little Chute; Lisa (Wes) Brown of Harrisburg, PA; Jeremy Hacker of Shawano; Sara Hacker of Colorado Springs, CO; Laura (Joe) Du Chesne of Shawano; Eric (Tanya) Ericson of Columbus, WI; Joshua (Sarah) Ericson of De Pere; Vanessa Ericson of Stevens Point and Kayla Boettcher of Madison. Louie was delighted to have five great grandchildren, Isaiah and Alexis Brown, Kelly and Chelsea Ericson, and Amelia Du Chesne. Louie is further survived by his sisters Mary Jean Tolzman, Gillett; Lois Weisnicht, Shawano, and Sandi (Mike) Kovach, Clintonville. In addition to his parents, Louie was preceded in death by, his wife, Rosella; an infant sister, Marceline, and his in-laws, John and Francis Lepinski, and numerous brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Friedens Lutheran Church in Bonduel with Rev. Virgil Hansen officiating. Family and friends may call on Wednesday at Friedens Lutheran Church from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held at Friedens Church Cemetery, Bonduel. Military rites will be held at Friedens Cemetery with Bonduel American Legion Post # 217. Zastrow Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Louis will be dearly missed by family and many friends. But we know he is rejoicing to be with God and once again rejoining the love of his life, Rosella.
