Lawrence Delwiche

Lawrence Delwiche, 100, formerly of Forestville, died peacefully on Jan. 31, 2014, at Oak Creek Assisted Living in Luxemburg. He was born on Jun. 3, 1913, in Brussels to Eugene and Mary (Wautier) Delwiche. On Oct. 27, 1937, he married Madeline Charles. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 2009, after 72 years of marriage.

Lawrence and his wife had farmed in the Maplewood area for many years until 1991 when they moved to Forestville. In 2009, he and his wife moved to Oak Creek Assisted Living in Luxemburg. Lawrence and Madeline together enjoyed much traveling and are former members of the Forest-Maplewood Senior Club.

Lawrence was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood and was a 50 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters in which he received a medal of honor. He is also a past school board member of Maplewood Grade School, serving for 7 years.

In his younger years, Lawrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, and card playing. He was a great sports enthusiast. He was especially an avid Brewers and Packers fan, and a Packers season ticket holder for many years. Besides farming, Lawrence worked at Christy Corporation in Sturgeon Bay and retired from Kewaunee Engineering after 23 years. Lawrence lived a full life and was ready to go to his eternal destiny.

Survivors include one son and two daughters, Allen (Judy) Delwiche of Sturgeon Bay; Donna Delwiche of Green Bay; and Sandy (Jerry) Jadin of Sobieski; six grandchildren, Dr. Dean (Karen) Delwiche, Oshkosh; Denise (Bob) Baus, Germantown; Debbie (Kevin) Lichtenberg, Oshkosh; David Delwiche, Milwaukee; Jenny Jadin, Green Bay; and Ryan Jadin, Madison; ten great-grandchildren, Peter, Rachel and Angie Delwiche; Ben, Zach, Emily, and Molly Baus; Alex and Katie Lichtenberg and Lily Gray. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry, his parents and Madeline's parents, Telesphore and Leona Charles, two sisters and one brother, Celia (Gordon) Hendricks, Wilmer (Verna) Delwiche, and Gladys (Carl) Tebon, and his sister-in-law, Marcella (Elmer) Lardo.

A mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood with the Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Marie Pinchart and the staff at Oak Creek Assisted Living for the kind and loving care they provided for Lawrence in his final years. Also, a special thanks to Heartland Hospice.

LAWRENCE, AS I GOT TO KNOW YOU AT OAK CREEK ASSISTED LIVING, WHILE VISITING MY MOM, I CAME TO REALIZE WHAT A GENTLE, WONDERFUL, INTELLIGENT MAN YOU WERE!!! YOU ARE WITH MADELINE AGAIN!!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time of loss. My dad Bernard LeRoy enjoyed time with your dad while he was at Oak Creek. He always mentioned about helping Lawrence eat, since they shared a table for the meals.
