Ignatowski, Alice

Alice Ignatowski, 86, Pulaski, died at home Thursday morning, May 8, 2014, surrounded by family following a 16-month courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of Felix and Mary (Stodolniak) Zawalick was born December 7, 1927, in Sobieski. On October 2, 1948, she married John Ignatowski at St. John Cantius Church in Sobieski. The couple raised five children and had celebrated 65 years of marriage last fall.

Alice was an excellent cook and baker. She loved working in her flower garden, quilting, and finding items for her grandchildren at rummage sales. She was an active member of SS. Edward & Isidore Parish in Flintville, where she regularly helped with church rummage sales, picnics, and funeral lunches. Alice was a member of many card-playing clubs.

Survivors include her husband, John; five children: Gerry (Patty) Ignatowski, Keizer, OR, Jan (Leo) Welter, Green Bay, Karen McCoy, Auburn, CA, Jim Ignatowski, Pulaski, and Paul Ignatowski, Pulaski; seven grandchildren: Crystal Ignatowski, Keizer, OR, Brett (Elise Roberts) Weber, Minneapolis, MN, Bryan (Gina) Weber, Minneapolis, MN, Caitlin McCoy, St. Louis, MO, Claire McCoy, Chico, CA, Matt Ignatowski, Pulaski, and Kurtis Peotter, Seymour; three siblings: Jeanette Babik, Sobieski, Vi (Fritz) Janus, Pelican Lake, and Bernie Zawalick, Green Bay; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Zawalick, AR, and Julie Zawalick, Dousman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Leo and Ted Zawalick; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Lorraine "Red" (Dan) Slezewski and Louis Babik; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Zawalick.

Friends may call at SS. Edward & Isidore Church, 3667 Flintville Rd., Green Bay (Flintville), from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, with a Closing Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. The visitation continues at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Fr. Dave Hoffman presiding, with burial in the parish cemetery.

The family would like to thank Unity Hospice for their compassionate care and, also, Julie Ann, Jeanette, C.J., and Karen for their thoughtful care and concern for Alice.
