Bernice L. "Bunny" Beverstein

Beverstein, Bernice L. "Bunny"

Bernice "Bunny" Beverstein, 95, longtime resident of Green Bay, passed peacefully into God's arms, Thursday, December 27, 2012 with her family at her side. She was born August 13, 1917, in Ludington, MI to Eugene and Elsie (Schroeder) LaSarge.

Bernice was the Salutatorian of her high school class, and graduated Cum Laude from Michigan State University with a double major in Business and English. She married Bob Beverstein on June 20, 1942. Bob's career with the National Cash Register Company brought them to Green Bay in 1960. They retired to Florida in 1979 and returned to Green Bay in 2007.

Bunny was a devoted partner to her husband, and was the center of her family. However, she had many outside interests as well. She had a lifelong passion for literature, music, and theater. A twenty-year member of The American Association of University Women (AAUW), she served a three-year term as their State Treasurer. She became proficient in needle arts, and was recognized for her lace making and embroidery skills, and became very active with The Embroiderers' Guild of America, in both Wisconsin and Florida. She attended the 1932 Chicago World's Fair, the 1943 Broadway opening of OKLAHOMA!, and the Ice Bowl. She hosted Rotary Exchange Students, served on the board of The Bay Lakes Council of The Girl Scouts of America, and on the faculty of NWTC. Additionally, she welcomed hundreds of families to the community as a representative of Civic Newcomers. If you lived in Allouez in the 1960's or 70's you probably saw Bob and Bun on one of their "fast walks".

Bernice and Bob were charter members of Resurrection Parish. She said the Rosary every day of her adult life.

Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, Robert; six children and their spouses, Roberta (Bob) Atkinson, Rod (Trish) Beverstein, Rick (Susie) Beverstein, Russ Beverstein, Roxanne Beverstein (Ralph Riddle), Rehna (Bob) Bernhardt; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Jena (Dave) Gundt, Christopher Atkinson, Lisa (Troy) Palmer, Joe (Becca) Beverstein, Molly (Dave) Hamm, Rebecca (Mark) Wanek, Gretchen (Chris) Dodgion, Rachel (Jake) Chastain, Elizabeth (Matthew) Kee; Caleb, Josh and Abigail Bernhardt; four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Gretchen (John) Petersen; and a family friend, Margaret Grost.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Toni Koeppler Beverstein; a grandson, Scott Robert Atkinson; her three sisters and two brothers-in-law.

Bunny's family is profoundly thankful for the care and companionship that she and Bob have received at Bellevue Retirement Community, and for the special service from Unity Hospice.
