Costello, Rev. Mr. Charles Robert
Rev. Mr. Charles Robert Costello, Sr., DD, PhD. was born April 24, 1943, in Green Bay, Wis., the son of Robert and Violet (Renier) Costello. He passed away on Jan. 3, 2014 at OMC hospital in West Plains, Mo. at the age of 70.
Rev. Mr. Charles Costello was united in marriage to Betty Jane Morgan on July 23, 1965, this past year celebrating their 48 years of marriage.
Charles is survived by his wife, Betty Jane (Morgan) Costello; two children, daughter Elizabeth Marie (Costello) Maynard and husband, Sam, Pomona, Mo.; and son, Charles Robert Costello, Jr., West Plains, Mo.; one granddaughter, Morgan Marie Maynard, Pomona, Mo.; two brothers, Jim Costello and wife, Cynthia (Tilly), De Pere, Wis.; Bob Costello and wife, Judy (Smith), De Pere, Wis.; four sisters, Karen Coppersmith, Denmark, Wis.; Christine Gaulke and husband, Patrick, Green Bay, Wis.; Cynthia O'Keefe and husband, Mike, Green Bay, Wis.; Catherine Konop and husband, Jim, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Diane (Bowers) Costello, Wrightstown, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, Don Morgan, Bruce, Miss.; Terry Morgan, Bruce, Miss.; mother-in-law, Mary L. (Morgan) Johnson, Bruce, Miss.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Charles graduated from Preble High School in 1962. He served in the United States Marine Corps
from 1964 to 1967, completing a tour in Vietnam. He was an Industrial/Machinist/Engineer for many years prior to becoming a Deacon in the Catholic Church. Charles has multiple degrees including one Bachelor, one Master, two Associate and two Doctorate degrees.
Charles was ordained a Permanent Deacon on June 9, 1979. He served the Catholic dioceses of Jackson, Miss., at Christ the King Catholic Church in South Haven, Miss., for over 18 years. He also served the Catholic diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Mo., for 13 years. Charles came to Mountain View in 1987 as the Permanent Deacon at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, with its Mission at St. Sylvester Church in Eminence, Mo. He later went to Bolivar, Mo., and served in the same capacity at Sacred Heart Parish. Charles then relocated to Springfield, Mo., where he served in the same capacity at St. Joseph's Parish. Charles retired 13 years ago and relocated back to Mountain View, Mo., until he moved to West Plains, Mo.
Charles enjoyed writing books and he has published four books: "Faithing on the Journey", "Intermittent Streams", "Companions on the Journey", and "Celebrating on the Journey". Charles enjoyed being with his family and friends. He was a people person. He was a loving husband and a giving person. He was an awesome dad and grandpa. He will be truly missed.
