Hermans, Donald R.
Donald R. Hermans, 82, longtime resident of Green Bay, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, after battling several health issues.
Don graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1949. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve before being called to active duty to serve in the Korean War
. On November 3, 1951, Don married his high school sweetheart, Muriel McGuire at Annunciation Catholic Church. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this November. During his teen years, Don worked at the Press-Gazette. He later drove truck for Gustafson Oil, and then became Operations Manager for Koch Industries, retiring after 38 years. Don enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his family. One of his proudest accomplishments was the building of a 40 ft. sailboat with his brother, Ed. He always said that his hobby was his wife, Muriel, whom he adored. Don was a caring, giving man who volunteered for St. Vincent dePaul Retail Store for over ten years. He was a faithful Catholic and opened the church doors for 7:15 a.m. Mass for years until his health deteriorated.
Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Muriel; his children and their spouses, Theresa Teeter and her special friend, D.J. Nolan, Dan (Mary Jo) Hermans, Sue (Dave) Chrisman, Linda (Mark) Joppe, Carol (Dennis) Paul; 13 grandchildren, Erin, Jonathon, Gregory, and Anna Teeter, Lindsay (Phil) Smock, Jenna Hermans, Ian (Jen) Chrisman, Lynnice (Peter) Lee, Andrew, Ellen, and Emily Joppe, Jacob Hooyman, Andrea Paul; four great-grandchildren, Joanna, Evan, Lucia, and Chase.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; brothers-in-law, Donald, Roland, and Jim McGuire; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rita and Joe Peters.
Friends may call Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St., from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev.
