Eugene "Gene" Karcz, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Eugene was the youngest son of the late Stephen and Stephanie (Paulus) Karcz and graduated from Pulaski High School with the class of 1946. Gene served his country in the US Army
and was a Korean War veteran
On October 3, 1953, he married the lovely Cecelia "Ceil" Kozlowski at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski. Gene and Ceil owned and operated Karcz's Bar in Little Suamico from 1958 through 1973. Gene told Ceil that "someday he would put her name in lights," and he did. Behind their bar was a lighted sign that said "Gene and Ceil". Gene also worked at Charmin Paper in Green Bay during much of the time that they owned the bar.
Gene and his brother, Stanley, purchased the Home Dairy in Pulaski in 1966 and they operated it until they sold the business in 1974. After selling the dairy, Gene worked at James River Corp. in Green Bay until he retired in 1993.
Gene and Ceil loved to travel. Branson was a popular spot, but Hawaii was their favorite. Gene and his friend, Wes, also enjoyed a trip now and then to casinos in northern Wisconsin. Gene was an avid gardener and his green thumb and passion for flowers was admired by many, especially his grandson, Jerad.
Survivors include his two sons and their wives; Randy (Susan), Discovery Bay, CA , Brian (Holly) Green Bay. He has three grandchildren; Jerad, Kyla and Amy all of Green Bay; two step grandchildren, Karen (Todd) Bandhauer of Ft. Collins, CO and Michael (Laura) Bushey of Mechanicsville, VA. He has four step great-grandchildren, twins Mason and Morgan, and Colton Bandhauer and Kyle Bushey. He is also survived by his brother, Stanley Karcz, and his sister, Mary Ann (Richard) Blasczyk, all of Pulaski. His surviving in-laws include Robert Van Lannen and Eleanor Karcz of Pulaski, Annabelle Karcz of Shawano and Esther Karcz of Seymour.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Ceil, in February 2007, and infant son Kevin in August, 1966. He was also preceded in death by siblings John, Anton, Leo, Frances (Wijas) Bialoszynski, Edward, Irene (Mielcarek), Peter, Henry, Betty (Van Lannen), Sylvester, and infant brother, Thomas.
No matter how he felt, dad always had a smile for us. Keep smiling, dad, until we see you and mom again.
Family and friends may call at Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, with a Closing Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. The visitation continues at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at SS. Edward & Isidore Church, 3667 Flintville Rd. (Green Bay), Flintville. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, Fr. Dave Hoffman presiding, followed by full military honors by the Pulaski area Veterans at the church. Burial will take place in Assumption B.V.M. Cemetery, Pulaski.
