Rood, Eugene "Elliot"

Eugene "Elliot" Rood, age 88, of Green Bay, passed away on May 27, 2014 at Woodside Rehabilitation Center. He was born on August 29, 1925 to the late Harold and Grace (Zekind) Rood in Janesville, Wisconsin. Elliot graduated from East De Pere High School in 1943. On December 18, 1948 he married Jo Ann Gascoigne at the First Presbyterian Church in Green Bay where he later served as an usher for many years. Elliot served in the 106th Infantry Division and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war Elliot attended the Illinois College of Optometry where he graduated. He was an Optometrist in Green Bay for 48 years retiring in 1990. Elliot later drove dealer trades for Le Mieux & Son. He was Past Master of the Des Peres Lodge # 85 Free & Accepted Masons and a longtime member of Beja Shrine. Elliot was a member of the American Optometric Association for more than 60 years. He was also a 50 year member of the Green Bay Breakfast Optimist club and the American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jo Ann; a daughter, Jo Ellen (Dan) Lang; three grandchildren, Bryson (Angie) Lang, Jordan Lang and Cassidy Lang; a great-grandson, Brecker Lang and one brother, Leonard Rood.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Ashland Avenue, from 9:30 am until the memorial service at 11:00 am with the Rev. Randy Argall officiating.
