G. John "Bud" Eklund, 88, Green Bay, formerly of Gillett, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 31, 2011.

Bud was born Jun. 8, 1923, in Gillett, to the late George S. and Irene (Moore) Eklund. He was a 1941 graduate of Gillett High School.

Bud served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII.

Bud married Lillian Hanson. She preceded him in death.

He was employed as an International Mail Clerk at the Miami Airport, where he retired.

Bud was a lifetime member of the Luebke-Robinson Post 8314 Gillett VFW and the Krause-Simpson Post 300 Gillett American Legion.

Bud is survived by his sister, Georgia Wilson, Silver Cliff; one sister-in-law, Betty Eklund Szymczak, Milwaukee; one brother-in-law, Merlyn Ehlinger, Iron River, Mich.; the extended Hanson Family; a special niece and caregiver, Carole Walesh, Silver Cliff; other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bud was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert, Ray, and Dean (Virginia); and one sister, Donna Ehlinger.

Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at the Kuehl Funeral Home 108 E. Main St. Gillett 920-855-2144. Funeral Services 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, with The Rev. Harvey H. Jeffers officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by members of the Gillett American Legion and VFW at the funeral home. Interment in Wanderers Rest Cemetery, Gillett.

Bud's family requests that memorials be sent to the Oconto Area Humane Society Inc, at 150 S. Katch Dr. Oconto, WI 54153.
