Gaylon L. Williams(1941 - 2013)

Williams, Gaylon L.

Gaylon L. Williams, 71, Green Bay, WI passed away as a result of a stroke on Sunday, August 25, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born October 18, 1941, in Champaign, IL to Dallas and Carrie (Bowman) Williams. Gaylon moved to Savanna, IL with his family as a boy and lived in the home his father built for the family.

He attended engineering school in Rockford, IL where he played bass guitar for a 1960's music band called The Rogues. Gaylon served in the Army Reserves and also enjoyed flying his Piper 2 Cub airplane. He worked at Sears where he met the love of his life, Jan. They were married on January 7, 1968, and two daughters, Jennifer and Vicki followed. In 1978, the family moved to Longwood, FL, where Gaylon worked for Alterman Transportation for many years. He enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, spending time with family and friends around the pool, and oil painting. Gaylon also liked serving as a Florida tour guide to visiting friends and family.

In 2001, Gaylon and Jan moved to Green Bay to be closer to their grandchildren. He went back to work at Sears and retired in early 2013. Gaylon particularly enjoyed spending time at the grandkids' sporting events, trips to the Milwaukee Public Museum, and several family vacations back to Florida and to Washington, D.C. to visit his daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law, Randy. He relished his weekly trips to various Green Bay area taverns with his son-in-law, Derek. Despite growing up a Chicago Bears fan, Gaylon became an avid Packers fan when he moved to Green Bay. He attended many games and was tailgating at the game on Friday night.

Gaylon was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved life and his upbeat personality was infectious to all who knew him. He had a true love of music and art and was devoted to his family.

Gaylon is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jan; his daughters, Jennifer (Randy) Druckman, Alexandria, VA; and Vicki (Derek) Hunt, Green Bay; three grandchildren Jeffrey, Adam, and Emily Hunt, Green Bay; two sisters, Bea (Bill) Ingersoll, Albany, IL; Sue (Jim) Pessman, Fulton, IL; and his brother, Dale (Sue) Williams, Camanche, Iowa. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Carrie Williams; his nephews, Gary and David Ingersoll; and three grandsons, Robert Aranza, III, John and Peter Hunt.
