Gloria A. Paul, 86, Allouez resident, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012. She was born on September 15, 1926 to the late Virgil and Margaret (Collins) Ladwig. She grew up in Racine and moved to Sturgeon Bay where she graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School. On September 13, 1947 she married Raymond Paul at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Gloria and Ray were associated with his parents at Paul's Nautical Inn in Sturgeon Bay until 1965 when Gloria and Ray opened Paul's Carriage Inn in downtown Green Bay which they owned and operated for 25 years until their retirement in 1990. During their career at the Carriage Inn they enjoyed their many new friendships with local celebrities and families. Many of Gloria and Ray's employees became lifelong friends. She loved reading and listening to classical music. Gloria volunteered at Howe School for over 20 years sharing her love of reading with the students through the Rock 'N Read Program. She received the Green Bay Press Gazette Good Neighbor Award for her years of dedication to the program. Gloria had a gift for sharing her love and enthusiasm for reading and the arts, especially classical music. She touched the lives of everybody she met.
She is survived by her two children, Thomas (Janice) Paul, Salem, Oregon; and Susan (Bill Larson) Hidalgo, Bellevue; one granddaughter, Jennifer Paul, Salem, Oregon; sister-in-law, Joan Ladwig, Sturgeon Bay; nephew, Jeffrey Ladwig; sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Gerald) Guth; brother-in-law, Ralph (Mary Alice) Paul; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Paul; brother, Dr. Thomas Ladwig; son-in-law, Richard Hidalgo; nephew, Cameron Paul.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5 at Heritage Hill State Park - Moravian Church, 2640 S. Webster Ave., from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January, 5. Inurnment will take place at the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund is being established.
Gloria's family would like to thank staffs of Oddfellows and Heartland Hospice for their genuine love and care. Also a special thank you to "Miss Pat" for being a true friend to the end.
