Harold J. Maloney(1920 - 2013)

Maloney, Harold J.

Harold J. Maloney, 93, Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services.

Harold was born in Green Bay to Harry J. and Anna (Schenk) Maloney on March 4, 1920. He spent his youth in Green Bay, attending West High School and graduating in the class of 1938. He worked at the Bay Theater and Stewart Smart Shop until the fall of 1940. In November of that year, Harold volunteered for and left on active duty with the SC432 for the East Coast and the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.

He served on the Submarine Tender AS13, U.S.S. Griffin throughout the war in the North Atlantic, Southwest Pacific, Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, Submarine Base at Pearl Harbor and Midway Island.

On June 16, 1945, Harold married Muriel Herlache in a double wedding ceremony at Annunciation Catholic Church with his sister, Rita, and Howard Gronlon. They spent nearly 50 happy years together before Muriel's untimely death on April 19, 1995.

The Green Bay and Packerland Kennel Clubs took up much of Harold's time, training dogs and showing his own dogs. He became an A.K.C. licensed obedience trial judge and was very active judging obedience trials throughout the Midwest, retiring in 1992.

Working years were spent at the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, retiring in 1985, after 40 years as an engineering draftsman.

On January 29, 1998, Harold married Marcella Carlson at St. Jude Catholic Church, where they first met. The couple took many marvelous trips over the next several years and they were always happy, with lots of laughter and smiles, as long as they were together.

Harold enjoyed annual trips to Camden, Maine, to sail on the Schooner Mary Day. He also enjoyed trips to Chambers Island for retreats, where he found time for fishing. He tied his own flies and was an avid fly fisherman. He took pleasure in his trips to Door County where he would fly the kites he made with his step-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; his brother, William Maloney and his wife, Eleanor; and his sister, Rita Gronlon.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella; his daughters, Mary (Tom) VanSistine and their son, Christopher (Karie) VanSistine, and Christine (Robert) Huehnerfuss, De Pere; his sister, Patricia Grant-Smith, Lake Havasu City, AZ; his step-children, Sara and Steve Summ; as well as nieces, nephews, and many special friends who loved him dearly.
