Van Hefty, James "Jim"
James "Jim" C. Van Hefty, 71, of De Pere passed away Sunday morning March 30, 2014, surrounded by his family. The son of Clarence and Marjorie (Sherman) Van Hefty was born July 29, 1942 in Oconto. Jim was a graduate of Lena High School, Class of 1960. He served his country in the US Army. Jim married the former Chris Bergmann at St. Joseph Catholic Church, De Pere on May 22, 1982.
Mr. Van Hefty owned and operated Van's Mobile Home Transport and Service. He also owned Van Hefty Acres and Riverview Mobile Home Park. Jim was very proud of his talents and was a very hard worker.
Jim was a devoted husband and father and especially enjoyed following his children's activities. He supported the events from sailing and skiing to tennis and football. In the earlier years, he served as Den Leader for the Webelos and was a Pioneer Cub Scout Leader. Jim loved going up north to the Woods and Water Lodge. In addition, he enjoyed spending time with Chris and the family at Big Cedar Lake during the summer. He was a member of the Cedar Lake Yacht Club and enjoyed grilling Saturday lunches. Mr. Van Hefty enjoyed the outdoors and the deer hunting experience with his family and friends. Jim was a past member of the BayLanders Barbershop Chorus. He was very social and went to breakfast often with his gang of guys at Nicolet Restaurant. Jim will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Chris, his children, Jim and Laura Van Hefty, Pat and Heather Van Hefty, Brian Pogue (fiancé, Jorlley Sanjuan), Chelsea and Justin Rolain, Christopher Van Hefty (special friend, Kylie Reynebeau), his grandchildren, Sam, Hannah, William, Olivia, Rachel, Jake, Casey, Sylvia, Alexys and one grandson due in August. Jim is also survived by his sisters, Sandra (Donald) Dumas, Sherry Bain, Carol (Tom) Quirt, and Beth Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday April 2, 2014. Parish prayer service will be held at 5:00 pm. Visitation will continue after 9:30 am Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday at the Church with Father Richard Getchel and Father James Baraniak, O. Praem concelebrating.
