Janice R. "Jan" Beck, 76, Green Bay, died Thursday, April 10, 2014. She was born June 16, 1937, in Green Bay to Theodore and Ruth (Huybrecht) McKloskey.

Jan was a graduate of Green Bay West High School, Class of 1955. She attended St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN and during this time joined the Benedictine Order. She left the Benedictine Order and became a teacher in the early 1960's and later earned her Masters of English Literature from UW-Madison in 1964. Jan moved to Montgomery AL and in a civilian capacity worked for the Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force teaching high level classes to officers and high ranking foreign visitors at Maxwell and Gunter Air Force Bases with special emphasis on National and Middle East affairs.

In 1996, she retired and returned to Green Bay. Jan was an active member of St. Jude Parish where she sang in the choir, and was active in Women's Club and other parish charitable and social activities. She taught Learning in Retirement courses at UW-Green Bay for years. Jan was an avid gardener, a lover of animals, an accomplished writer and painter, and a voracious and eclectic reader. She will be remembered for her kindness and giving nature.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Jaeger; grandchildren, Eryn Hutto, William J. Hutto, Bryant Jaeger; sister, Joyce T. Sharkey; brother, Neil (Pat) McKloskey; two nephews, Erik McKloskey and Michael McKloskey; and many cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; her beloved dogs, Abe and Charlie; and several cats.

Friends may call at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division St., from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family.
