Vander Putten, Marion C.
Marion C. Vander Putten, 91, Green Bay, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013. She was born September 30, 1921, in Oconto Falls, to John and Eva (Meyers) Gondek.
Marion was a graduate of Oconto Falls High School with the Class of 1940. On October 10, 1942, she married William Vander Putten at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston, MA. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1989.
Marion greatly enjoyed volunteering her time and effort with the March of Dimes and the Volunteer Center, and she also enjoyed the many friends she made there. She was an avid bowler. Marion loved wild flowers in the summer, visiting waterfalls throughout northern Wisconsin, taking rural trips through Waupaca County and Keshena Falls. Marion also loved to do crossword puzzles, and was known for walking for miles a day. She loved to make bran bread and homemade soups, especially turkey vegetable. At age 65, she took up cross country skiing, and got her drivers license at age 70. Marion was a member of St. Jude Parish. She also enjoyed spending time fishing at White Clay Lake and was very skilled at catching Northern Pike.
Marion is survived by three children and a son-in-law, Alan Vander Putten, Green Bay; Rita and Jim Johnson, Eau Claire; Jim Vander Putten, Ph.D. (Amanda L. Nolen, Ph.D., and her daughter, Ashley), all of Little Rock, AR; two grandchildren, Christian Johnson (Stephanie Shadick); Kjessia Johnson Karol (Ben Karol) all of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren, Emmett and Elliott; four sisters, Eleanor Hargarten, Naperville, IL; Regina Allard, Green Bay; Evelyn Gondek and Eileen Gondek, both of Naperville, IL; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; six brothers, Louis, John, Ed, Emil, Henry, Lloyd; one sister, Della; two brothers-in-law, Len Hargarten, Len Allard; and two sisters-in-law, Agnes Vander Putten, and Catherine Gondek.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Funeral Service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Sister Pat Clement officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Marion's name.
