Houren, Melba K.

Melba K. Houren, 100, Green Bay, died Thursday, February 14, 2013, at a local nursing home. She was born October 25, 1912, in Iuka, Illinois to the late Herman F. and Anna (Behrndt) Koeneman. On November 25, 1933, she married Howard R. Houren in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death January 24, 1982.

Melba was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Redeemer Refunders. She was a Salvation Army volunteer and enjoyed being with her friends at the YWCA.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Perry) Bresemann and Judith Westerfeld; her grandchildren, Scott, Joel (Tammy) Westerfeld, Jon (Kari) Bresemann, Brian (Stephanie) Bresemann, Stephen (Andrea) Houren, Susan (David) Denman and Barbara (Chris) Deitsch; and her great-grandchildren, Morgan Westerfeld, Tyler and Abbey Houren and Alan and Ian Deitsch.

She was preceded in death by a son, Howard H. Houren, in 1986; her son-in-law, Rod Westerfeld, in 2012; one sister; and two brothers.

Visitation will take place Monday, February 18, from 10 to 11 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 210 South Oneida Street, with a memorial service at 11 am with the Rev. Paul Pett officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at
