Passamoni, Phillip "Guzzy' L.
Phillip "Guzzy" L. Passamoni, 77, of Iron River, passed away Sunday, July 14, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born at home Nov. 16, 1935, in Bates Township, the son of Louis and Hilma (Norkoli) Passamani. He attended the Bates and Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1954. He was a U.S. Air Force
Phil married the former Gail Ivey on Dec. 5, 1959, at the Wesley United Methodist Church of Iron River. He worked in the local mines for several years and later went to Marquette Technical School for his machinist certification. The couple moved to Green Bay, Wis. and later South Carolina, returning to the Iron River area in 1991.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and American Legion Alfred Branchini Post #17 of Iron River. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting (especially deer hunting with the guys), fishing, and enjoyed watching the Tigers. His biggest joy in life was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, especially the time they spent at his camp on the Paint River.
Phil is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail; two sons, Phillip (Ann) Passamoni and Clint (Lisa) Passamoni, both of Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Phillip (Meagan), Amanda, Shane, Kaylee, and Zach; great-grandson, Coltyn; brothers, Andrew, Duane, Daniel (Sue); sister, Ann (Bill) Carne, Republic, Mich.; and sister-in-law, Judy Ivey.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roberta and Alfred Ivey; sister, Jan Garber; brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Betty, and brother-in-law, Larry Ivey.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 19, 2013 from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Iron River.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Roberta Willson to officiate.
Interment will be in Bates Township Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
Phil and Gail would like to thank all of their family and friends for their support and help through Guzzy's illness, and also his doctors and nurses. Guzzy would want to thank all of his friends and family that helped to build his cabin on the Paint River which he enjoyed so much.
