Theys, Robert Louis (Shorty)
Robert Louis (Shorty) Theys, Sr, age 83 of Green Bay, formerly a resident of Kewaunee for forty-eight years, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Bellin Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sugar Bush, WI on May 16, 1929 to the late John and Laura (Jadin) Theys. He married Marilyn C. Vandersteen on November 10, 1956 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Green Bay, WI.
He was employed for forty years as a machinist at Kewaunee Fabrications, formerly Kewaunee Engineering Corp. He was a member of Holy Rosary Congregation, served on the Kewaunee City Council for twenty-six years, and was a charter member and Captain of the former Kewaunee Civil Defense for thirty years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1956, a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers Union, Lodge 487 for forty years, and a delegate to the Kewaunee County Labor Council for twenty years. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Bellin Volunteer Services, and the Chambers Island Retreat House for several years.
Survivors include his wife: Marilyn; his children: Robert L. Theys (Penny L. Walther), New Berlin, WI; Carole L. Klaczko and significant other, Todd Wood, Green Bay, WI; Molly L. (Glen E.) Vierkant, Green Bay, WI; Susan M. (Donald G.) Anderson, Weston, FL; USAF Lt. Col. Mark F. (JoAnn M.) Theys, Forest Hill, MD; Daniel T. Theys and significant other, Christy Ellsworth, Green Bay, WI; seven grandchildren: Jennifer A. (Dennis) Rank; Jeffrey A. Van Remortel and significant other, Elizabeth Sweet; USA PFC Laura M. Van Remortel; USAF SSgt Samuel E. Anderson; Jerome J. Anderson; Eric J. Walther-Theys; Jack R. Theys; three great grandchildren: Elizabeth Rank; Morgan Rank; Dylan Rank; Surviving Siblings: Sister, Clara (Joseph) Van Ess, Sugar Bush, WI; Sister, Doris (Hubert) Van Den Plas, Denmark, WI; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Theys, Ellisville, WI; Judy Theys, Two Rivers, WI; two aunts: Octavia Kollross, Kewaunee, WI; Anna Kugel, New Franken, WI; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Frank and Rose Vandersteen, Green Bay; two brothers-in-law: Donald Vandersteen; Thomas Vandersteen; both of Green Bay, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Laura (Jadin) Theys; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Frank and Angeline (Schroeder) Vandersteen; three brothers and one sister-in-law: Louis Theys; Hubert (Mary Ann) Theys; Walter Theys and a sister: Jennifer Theys.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20th at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee, WI. A parish wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20th led by Deacon Robert Pribek. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee, WI with Fr. William Swichtenberg officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
