Winifred "Winnie" (Rabideau) Vandersteen, 94, Green Bay, joined her husband "Hub" to be together forever on Friday, March 14, 2014. She was born on March 27, 1919, in Green Bay to George and Della (Lemerond) Rabideau. In 1937, she graduated from Milwaukee School of Beauty Culture. Winifred married Herbert "Hub" Vandersteen on June 1, 1941. Winnie loved Friday fish frys, playing cards with her grandchildren and friends and spending time with her family. She was an avid knitter and shared her talents and treasures with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. After retirement, she and Herbert spent winters on Pine Island, Florida and also travelled to Arkansas and Texas to visit their grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, James Vandersteen, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Bruce Burmiester, Oneida; four granddaughters and their spouses, Vicki and Brad Orr, Arkansas; Ginny and David Buster, Georgia; Julie and Scott Jossart, Green Bay; Shelia Brenwall, De Pere; one grandson and his spouse, Ronald and Cheryl Cody, De Pere; Vicki and Ginny's mother, Carol Sullivan; four great-granddaughters, Danielle, Brook, Holly, Payton; five great-grandsons, Zach, Seth, Jerrod, Kyle, Ben; Brook's mother, Tina Cody; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert "Hub" Vandersteen; her mother, Della Olson; her step-father, Alfred Olson; her brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Catherine Rabideau; her sister, Hazel LePak; an infant brother, Harold; a great-grandson, Samuel Buster; her father, George Rabideau and Shelia's husband, Doug Brenwall.
Friends may call at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum Chapel, 2121 Riverside Dr., from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday. The Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Mausoleum with Rev. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Winnie's name.
Winnie wished to extend a thank you to her daughter, Jean, and son, Jim, for all of their help, love and support. She also wanted to thank the staff and her friends at Meadow Wood Assisted Living and her "adopted" daughters, Joan Mielke and Patti Seeman.
