Mary Rose Van Oss Wright, 82, died peacefully Oct. 4, 2013, at John Knox Independent Living in Tampa, Fla. She was born Mary Rose Van Oss in Green Bay on Jan. 30, 1931, to John and Marie (Maes) Van Oss.
Mary Rose entered the Noviciate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1950 and became Sister Jeanne Alice in March 1953. She left the order in 1968. She married David Wright in December 1970, who preceeded her in death in 2004. Her three brothers and sisters-in-law, also preceded her in death, Robert 'Red" Van Oss and Kathleen, John "Jack" Van Oss, Ralph Van Oss and Doris. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Arleen "Avi" Van Oss and Mary Van Oss; many nieces and nephews.
She received her BS degree in Mathematics from Frontbonne College in St. Louis in 1957, she continued her education earning her MS in 1962 and PhD in Mathematics in February 1969 from University of Notre Dame, South Bend Ind. She held teaching positions at Avila College in K.C. Mo., UMKC, UW-Oshkosh and St. Leo's University in St. Leo Fla., where she finished her career as Head of the Math Dept. and retired as professor Emeritus in 1996. Since then she had been active in numerous local charities and volunteer work in the Tampa area.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum, 2121 Riverside Dr. at 11 a.m.
