Alice Frances Gijsen, nee Fecker, passed away on January 11th, 2014, at Appleton Medical Center.
Alice was born September 29, 1937 in Danville, Illinois, the eldest daughter of Herbert and Alice (Senger) Fecker. "Fran", as she was called by all who knew her, was raised in Danville, attending Schlarman Catholic High School (class of 1955). After graduation, she attended Webster College (now University), St Louis, followed by training and practice as a Medical Technologist. Fran met Ton Gijsen at a Catholic social event and the couple was married in December 1961.
Fran is survived by her two children: Tanya Vernon and John (Lise) Gijsen; and four grandchildren: Christopher Evan Morgan (Lenka Podolanova), of London, UK; Pieter A.M. Vernon, Specialist, Ironhawk Troop, 3d Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, TX; Laurel Frances Vernon; and Ceilidh Mae Gijsen of Appleton, WI. Tanya is a Paralegal at Jones Sign Co., Inc, De Pere, and John is Director of Facilities Management, System Locations, ThedaCare, Inc. Other family members surviving in the United States include: Herb and Dwila Fecker of Valrico, FL; Joe and Linda Fecker of Hoopeston, IL; Claire and John Smith of Centralia, IL; and Rich and Jan Schendel of Springfield, TN. Fran is preceded in death by her parents.
Fran was a devout Catholic who had a small business for many years providing expert sewing and alterations, from riding habits to men's suits. She spent her later years involved in the lives of her grandchildren and keeping in touch with far away friends via the internet.
Fran (or Omi, as she was called by Chris, Pieter, Laurel and Ceilidh), suffered a brief illness in January 2014 and joined Ton, her husband of 47 years, forever at rest in the peace of the Lord.
A memorial will be held in Spring - her favorite time of year - when the robins return and family and friends can travel safely and enjoy the flowers. Donations may be made to the
