Clegg, Bea

Beatrice (Bea) Clegg, age 66 of De Pere passed on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in the care of the palliative and hospice care teams at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. She was born June 12, 1948 in Rockford, Illinois to the late Noble and Hazel Dowling.

She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi and her graduate work at the University of Minnesota. She was proud to be a faculty member at St. Norbert College, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, sharing her love of the brain with psychology students for more than 30 years. She served the people of Brown County for 23 years, first working in prevention and later with the Birth-to-Three program until her retirement.

Bea's love of reading, cooking, gardening, horses, running, swimming and most recently, being the best grandmother a little boy could dream of, filled her retirement with joy. Through the last 20 years, Bea had fought her way back to health more times than the energizer bunny (who she never did get around to getting tattooed on her pacemaker). She has been and will be an inspiration to those who knew her for her incredible love of life, generosity, intellect and fantastic sense of humor.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Michael Clegg of De Pere, her daughter Teresa (Austin) Adler of Madison, her grandson and the light of her life, Eamon Adler, her brothers Noble (Mary Anne) Dowling of Spring Hill, FL, John (Judy) Dowling of Coral Springs, FL, Richard (Connie) Dowling of Cherry Valley, brother-in-law Dennis (Becky) Clegg of Clarendon Hills, IL, sisters-in-law Susan (Jim) Dower and Donna (John) Carey both of Chicago, IL, along with many very special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Noble and Hazel Dowling, parents-in-law, Joseph and Patricia Clegg, and her sister-in-law Patricia Creevy.

Visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 North Tenth Street in De Pere from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. The funeral service and celebration of Bea's life will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, with interment following at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in De Pere. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the Clegg family.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff in the ICU and on the fourth floor of Bellin Hospital and the incredible team at Unity Hospice, especially her nurse Barb.

Be like Bea, find joy in the smallest things and share that joy with those around you.
