Zima, Claudine Margaret

Claudine Margaret Zima joined her sweetheart, Casey, in heaven on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 2013. Born July 25, 1921, Claudine was the fifth of twelve children born to Frances and Oliver Zoeller. She married Casimir "Casey" Zima on April 26, 1947. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2011, shortly after their 64th wedding anniversary. Claudine was a lifelong member of the Abrams, and more recently, Oconto United Methodist Church. Claudine lived most of her life in Brookside. She worked at various jobs including Schilling Fish, Bond Pickle, and as a housekeeper for Tom and Rachel Moody. Claudine had many hobbies such as gardening and crocheting. Claudine took pride in having the earliest and largest cucumbers, tomatoes, and potatoes. She had the largest asparagus patch in Brookside as well as a huge variety of flowers and plants! Claudine canned the produce that she grew, as well as fruits and berries, meat, fish, and mushrooms, making sure the family had plenty to eat in the winter. Holidays were special for Claudine and she enjoyed having the entire family at home. She hosted Christmas Eve every year, where she served homemade cookies and candy, ham and pickled fish, among other treats. Easter consisted of a huge dinner, as well as an egg hunt for the kids, no matter how muddy it was. Grandma dressed up in costume with the grandkids, and walked in the Brookside Days parade on more than one occasion. It was always interesting to go home and see what new recipe or craft Mom was making. Most of the time, she would have the radio and television on, as she didn't want to miss the news. She had the largest collection of VCR tapes ever! In her "spare" time, she took part in Homemakers, the Brookside Community Center, working at elections, assisting with church dinners, and anywhere else her presence was needed. She never refused watching the grandkids, and many times had the whole crew. Mom was never idle.

Claudine will be sadly missed by her children, Sharon (Ed) Weigelt, Shelby (Ken) DePouw, Becky (Rodger) Wendt, and Bruce (Cathy) Zima; and son-in-law, Bill Schmolinske. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Robert (Jackie) Lockstein, Heather Lockstein and friend, Dan, Eric Lockstein and friend, Darcy, Nichole (Wilbur) Haak, Courtney (Ross) Christensen, Shannon (Greg) Haak, Jared (Jamie) Weigelt, Brooke Schmolinske and fiancé, John Motiff, William Jr. (Abbey) Schmolinske, Keith Schmolinske, Jody (Shawn) Reynolds, Casey Cook and friend, Jackie, Bradley Zima and friend, Kelsey; stepgrandchildren, Amanda (Matthew) Haugen, and Joshua (Jenn) Wendt. Claudine's great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren at last count number 18. Claudine leaves behind three brothers, Roland Zoeller, Marvin (Shirley) Zoeller, and Vernon (Carol) Zoeller; a sister-in-law, Leona Zoeller; brothers-in-law, Wilbert Longsine and Gerald Townsend; Casey's sister-in-law, Eleanor Zima; and many nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances. Claudine was preceded in death by her husband, Casey; daughter, Vicki Schmolinske; parents, Frances and Oliver Zoeller; brothers, sisters and spouses, Reuben (Sylvia) Zoeller, Helen "Sis" (Ed) Bloom, Sylvester "Spike" (Rose) Zoeller, Berdine Zoeller, Bernard Zoeller, Arlene Longsine, Cecelia "Betty" Townsend, Jacqueline (Terry) Corbit; as well as Casey's parents and siblings.
