Hegg, Elaine M.
The Guest Book is expired.
Elaine M. Hegg, 83, lifelong resident of Green Bay, died peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2013, at a local hospital with her family by her side. She was born October 11, 1929, in Green Bay, to Harold G. and Elizabeth M. (Perkins) Mathews.
Elaine graduated from Green Bay West High School, Class of 1947, and later graduated from Bellin Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1950. On June 17, 1951, Elaine was united in marriage to Don M. Hegg. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2000. Elaine's nursing career spanned many years. She worked as, an R.N. at Bellin Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, Veteran's Hospital, Madison; St. Michaels Hospital, Milwaukee; Taylor County Hospital, Medford; Eagle River Nursing Home; and Vilas County Public Health. She was active in coordinating luncheons for her West High Class of 1947 and the Bellin Alumni Class of 1950. In her retirement, Elaine continued to serve friends and family through running errands and frequent visits, or by sending many hand written letters and dozens of birthday cards. Elaine also enjoyed her husband's family from the Lower Eau Claire Lake and spent many summer days up north enjoying hunting, fishing, golf, swimming, and many other "social adventures". Perhaps her favorite past-time was hearing of, and telling others about, the constant activities her beloved grandchildren were involved in. Gramma will certainly miss Tayler, Ty, and Sidney! She was a member of American Diabetes Association, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and Bellin Nursing School Alumni.
Elaine is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Kim Hegg, Menasha; three grandchildren, Tayler Hegg, at St. Leo University, St. Leo, FL; Ty Hegg and Sidney Hegg, both of Menasha; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Blair Mathews and his wife, Karen Mathews-Johnson, Madison; Joan Mathews, Green Bay; Marilyn Mathews, Waunakee; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Volker, Milwaukie, OR; Loretta Hart, Escondido, CA; and a brother-in-law, Wendell Hegg, Paxton, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, Harold and Elizabeth Mathews; a brother, Edward G. Mathews; many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. The Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Diane Rew officiating. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bellin Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Elaine's family extends a special thank you to all of the nurses, doctors, and staff of St. Vincent Hospital for their loving care and compassion shown to Elaine and her family.
