Eleanor H. Brenneke, 91 of Hortonville, died Friday August 24, 2012 at Brewster Village. She was born March 7, 1921 in Oshkosh, daughter of the late Christian Hanson and Nora (Peterson) Jorgensen-Lavenger. Eleanor married Howard Brenneke on September 13, 1941. Howard preceded her in death on July 9, 2005.
Eleanor worked for the U.S. Weather Bureau. She volunteered her time at the Mosquito Hill Nature Center, as she loved being outdoors and enjoyed nature; and was a friend of the Hortonville Library. In their younger years, Eleanor and Howard took in 44 foster children between 1958 thru 1971; they were all very special to her.
Eleanor is survived by a son, Chuck (Peg) Brenneke, Tomah; five grandchildren, Aaron (Julie) Brenneke, Luxemburg, Nathan Brenneke, Tomah, Lance (Deborah) Brenneke, Glen Head, NY, Shane Brenneke, (special friend BJ Mahon), Hortonville, and Laura (Joel) Borree, Greenville; five great-grandchildren, Raven, Devon, Logan, Emily, and Lilly; special niece, Fran Dowling, Ogdensburg; and her first, and very special foster son, Mike Koran, Fitchburg. She was preceded in death by four sons, Thomas, Peter, James, and Marty.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday September 17, 2012 at FOX VALLEY UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST FELLOWSHIP, 2600 E. Philip Lane, Appleton with Rev. Roger Bertschausen officiating. Visitation will be at the fellowship on Monday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
