Lucas, Horace N. "Luke"
The Guest Book is expired.
Horace N. "Luke" Lucas, 98, Green Bay, died peacefully Monday, April 14, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born September 1, 1915, in Philadelphia, PA to William and Mary (Ryan) Lucas.
Horace moved to Green Bay as a young boy and attended West High School. He was the third Boy Scout in Green Bay to become an Eagle Scout, an achievement of which he was very proud. He was also a Sea Scout and belonged to the Naval Reserve. On September 25, 1940, he married Orpha Hannon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Champion, WI. Horace enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served during WWII. For 45 years he was employed by Northwest Engineering Company, where he was known as "High Pockets". Horace was an avid Packers fan, holding season tickets for more than 40 years.
In his retirement years, Horace was an active volunteer and ambassador of goodwill securing many coupons, gifts and other benefits from merchants in the Green Bay area for the use of active Navy and Coast Guard personnel. He had a soft spot for any sailor. Horace was on the Governor's Commission to recommission the U.S.S. Wisconsin. He was also instrumental in the development of a book on the history of Northwest Engineering Company. He was a member of the Navy Club, the American Legion, the Green Bay Elks Club and the Retired Men's Club, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Horace and Orpha enjoyed traveling, visiting all of the lower 48 states by car, and flying to Alaska and Hawaii.
Thank you dad for taking us every Sunday to parks, or a beach, or just a ride, with a picnic lunch; that taught all of us to love our beautiful state of Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Orpha; five children and their spouses, Gloria Kreuser, Sandy Spejcher, Linda Feller, Michael (Ellie) Lucas, Patrick (Joan) Lucas; grandchildren, Mark (Michele) Kreuser, Lynn (David) Cain, Todd (Lisa) Kreuser, Kris (Steve) Cherney, Joe Spejcher, Chad Feller and his fiancée, Lindsay Cloutier, Jeff (Erin) Lucas, Cindy Lucas, Debbie Lucas and her significant other, Erik Scott, Jyll (Tommy) Everman, Joe Lucas; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Horace was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Sydney; a son-in-law, Larry Kreuser; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Ceil), Bill (Ursula), and Roy (Mary) Lucas; and many members of Orpha's family.
