Irene Josephine Conard, 97, of Kewaunee, and formerly of Namur, passed away on January 17, 2013, at Ministry Door County Medical Center. She was born on January 27, 1915, in Rosiere, to Alex and Catherine (Wendricks) LeGreve.
Irene held various jobs,working at the shoe factory and Fontaine's Grocery Store. She and her son also ran the home farm. She was a wonderful cook, especially making many delicious Belgian pies. She also made many large meals for the Kermiss and for holidays. In her younger days, she enjoyed doing yard work and tending to her flower gardens. She had many hobbies including ceramics, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing, and upholstering furniture. When she could no longer do those activities, her hobbies were mainly reading and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her daughter, Arlene (Sylvester) Stauber, Kewaunee, with whom she resided during the last few years of her life; her grandchildren, Monica (Dan) Holtz, Eau Claire; Mary (Larry) Massart, Algoma; Mark (Wendy) Stauber, Luxemburg; Merle (Laurie) Stauber, Kewaunee; Mitchell (Lisa) Stauber, Kewaunee; Martin Stauber, Kewaunee; Melissa (Tom) Daron, Kewaunee; Mathew (Teresa) Stauber, Kewaunee; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Allen Conard; one grandson, Milan Stauber; three brothers, Gilbert, Vincent, and Bernard LeGreve; five sisters, Freida LeDocq, Helen Delorit, Lucy Laurent, Agnes Carl, and Irene LeGreve.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at St. Francis and St. Mary's Parish with Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Tuesday.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Ministry Door County Medical Center and the Algoma Long Term Care Unit for their care for Irene over the last two weeks.
